About the event

International meeting, exhibition and round table discussion

The upcoming international meeting is part of the project "BarnCulture". During the two days event we organise an exhibition, a roundtable discussion and a one day field trip to visit some good examples of converted and unconverted barns in Hungary.

During the first 6 months of the project, visual artists created works that were inspired by the barn. There are works that were installed in existing barns, and some that were inspired by experiences, materials, functions or techniques related to them. At our exhibition, visitors can enjoy the photo documentation of the works created and some of the originals will also be exhibited.

The exhibition will be opened by the leaders of the three partner organisations

Eszter Rodics president of the Community College of Art for the Carpathian Basin

Werner Thumann director of the Landcare Association Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz

Gergely Rodics director of the Agri-Cultura-Natura Transylvaniae Association.

Roundtable discussion

"Cooperation between architecture and fine art"

What are the possible ways of cooperation between architecture and contemporary art today? What is the place of art in minimalist designs? What is the place of organic architecture or nature art in it? And how are traditions related to this in an age when the future of barns is not in farming, but in finding new functions? We are looking for answers to these questions with the help of our invited contributors and the audience.

Moderator of the roundtable discussion:

Dénes Nagy President of the Committee for Folk Architecture of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Veszprém; and President of the International Symmetry Society (Budapest, Melbourne)

Leonhard Thumann architect and visual artist, member of the Berschneider + Berschneider Architecture Office (Germany)

Florian Roth architect, Masters student at the Technical University of Munich (Germany)

Ernő Bogos architect, director of the Transylvanian Károly Kós Association (Transylvania, Romania)

Péter Alpár sculptor and visual artist, lecturer at the Sepsiszentgyörgy Department of Fine Arts of the University of Pécs (Transylvania, Romania)
