BarnCulture
Model conversion designs for barn owners
The goal of our project, which started in early 2023, is to create model designs for barn conversions that are realized in collaboration between architects and visual artists. We believe that these two professions can have a productive effect on each other and the resulting designs can represent a higher quality.
The books and brochures resulting from the project were published in four languages in 2025.
These can be downloaded from the BarnCulture website.
During the project, architects and artists from Transylvania, Hungary and Germany worked together, a total of 12 barn conversion plans were created based on selected barn in each country. The task of the visual artists was twofold, on the one hand, they reinterpreted the interior of a selected barn using the language of contemporary art, so that the end result is a one-man exhibition (installation, sculpture, video work, etc.). On the other hand, they contributed to the preparation of the architectural plan with their unique vision and creative ideas. The project is implemented with the co-financing of the Creative Europe program of the European Union.
As the first step of the project, we issued a tender for architects and visual artists. The successful applicants worked together for two years - and also had the opportunity to meet in person with their Hungarian and German counterparts.
